Please sponsor me in the London Marathon

For the last few years I’ve been running the London Marathon in support of FRU (where I’m the Principal Legal Officer, Employment). This year is no exception. If you can help, I’m collecting sponsorship through JustGiving.

FRU really is a good cause. We help about 1,000 people every year in the Employment and Social Security Tribunals. That’s a drop in the bucket in terms of the system as a whole — but vital for the people involved. We do that on a legal staff of four, plus 500 odd volunteers. It’s a brilliant, brilliant organisation (I wish I could take more credit for that, but the basic structure and working model was sorted out in the 1970’s and has been rolling on successfully ever since). You can find more information about FRU on our website.

Like most volunturary sectors, funding is a fairly constant struggle. We don’t receive government funding. Most of our funds come from the profession, either directly from individual lawyers, chambers and firms — or through the Inns of Court and the Bar Council. Anything you can spare will be put to good use (if I raised an average of £1 from each reader of the blog, I’d surpass my target comfortably!)
