Companies House

Many Employment Tribunal respondents are companies. So it’s worth knowing about Companies House.

CH is the part of the UK government that acts as the registry of companies and maintains information about them. They have an useful website, where you can search for information about companies, including their registered address and insolvency status. Also, for a small fee, you can download many official documents, including company accounts. (At the moment this costs £1 per document.)

CH is often the answer to the minor, but tricky, logistical issues tribunal litigation throws up. What is the correct name of the Respondent? Where can I send correspondence? Are they still an active company?

If your respondent is a company, it’s worth checking CH as a matter of course. And use the ‘Monitor this company’ tool, which will send you an email if the information held by CH changes.
